Guyader Gastronomie opened its cannery on the Isle of Groix as an experimental showcase for local sustainable development..... The initiative, which began in 1990, is very much a story of people and passion. It has been both an adventure and an economic challenge: to manufacture a range of premium fish products from locally-caught fish and employing local men and women on the Isle of Groix while showing the greatest respect for the island's culture and environment.
The aims of Groix et Nature are to preserve and revive the traditional skills and expertise of canning and preserving, to create much-needed jobs on the island, to generate added value for local raw materials and to preserve and produce the best that nature can offer.
The small-scale, discreet production unit blends in exactly with the environment. Groix et Nature uses selected fish and shellfish from the Lorient area and Brittany, within the context of sustainable fishing, respecting the management and highlighting the importance of local fish stocks.
Groix & Nature today represents 7 jobs on the island, 2 associated jobs, 40 tonnes of raw materials from local fishing and 500,000 jars sold in France and abroad which bear witness to the exceptional richness and the influence of an island which is unique in Brittany.
